Critic Review: "This wine is rose hued, lush, lively, with aromas of raspberry, strawberry, papaya, and notes of orange blossom honey on the nose. The flavors on the palate are White nectarine, Blood orange, rhubarb-cranberry, Kaffir lime cream, clove, and a dry mineral finish. Pair with Fresh Oysters." — Tonya Pitts (Wine Enthusiast)
Wine Folly: Pg. 79 -- Barbera is described in the text as having a high acidity and fuller body with low tannins along with flavors/aromas such as tart cherry, licorice, dried herbs, and more. I definitely think this Rosé had a high acidity, but I also believe it had higher tannins because it left a very dry feeling in my mouth. I didn't pick up any of the flavors/aromas listed, but instead I first smelled a very strong yeast or bread aroma. I continued to pick up peach and cucumber smells after my second sniff. As for flavors, I definitely still tasted a yeast or bread flavor. Over time, I tasted peach and a tiny bit of citrus.
My Review: I thought this Rosé was a bit drier than I was expecting, considering it's from California. It certainly left that puckery feeling in my mouth, and you can tell the alcohol is a bit higher as that element pops out when tasting. I think the fruit flavor was actually a bit subtle and could be more apparent. However, I could absolutely see this as a wine that is drank in the summertime with a strawberry salad as it still remains pretty light and crisp.
I did not have this wine with food.
