My Wine Journey
I have not always been a lover of wine. The first tasting I experienced made me question how people drink glasses with ease and enjoyment. However, over time I believe my palate changed, or maybe I just discovered what I liked best. I still don't have much experience with wine, which is why I am excited to explore and broaden my horizons. I have typically only tried wine a handful of times in my life. These times have been with family and friends. With family, I have been able to taste more of a variety of wines. With friends, it's usually only been one type of wine.
My family enjoys drinking red wine mainly when having dinner. I've experienced this when having a dinner of pasta, steak, or anything involving cheese. Sometimes, a white wine, specifically Chardonnay, will be thrown in the mix. For holidays, Chardonnay or Champagne will be served at our dinners. With friends, we enjoy rosé, which is usually enjoyed socially without a food pairing. Through these experiences, I have learned that I despise red wine as it's way too dry. I find white wine more enjoyable but still do not place it as a favorite, except for Champagne! Currently, I gravitate toward rosés because I find them easier to sip and sweeter.
While participating in the Geography of Wine course, I hope to learn more about the notes of different wines and be able to recall the names. I am also looking forward to learning about appropriate food pairings, especially with cheeses! Coming out of this course, I hope to become a wine expert to impress family and friends at the dinner table while expanding my knowledge about such an excellent subject.
