Critic Review: "An aromatic bouquet of dried herbs, star anise, cardamom and blackberry jam show on the nose. This bottling has herbaceous flavors that lead to pomegranate, juicy plum and well-integrated notes of oak. The finish is long and smooth." — (Wine Enthusiast)
Wine Folly: Pg. 228 -- This blended wine is mentioned in the book to have notes of black olive, which I tasted after the second sip. The other notes described in the text I did not taste. However, from my own sips, I first picked up a pretty strong alcohol flavor. Along with this, I got tiny notes of chocolate. As for smells, I first picked up a dirt, earthy aroma. After time, I picked up a bit of raspberry.
My Review: I thought this red wine was actually pretty smooth, as I was expecting it to be very tannic and dry. However, it was actually on the sweeter side, which was quite pleasant. I had this wine with Camembert and Havarti cheese, which somewhat tamed the alcohol flavor down a bit. The cheeses brought out the sweeter side of the wine. Overall, for a red wine I actually enjoyed it. Unfortunately, I still would not pick it out of a lineup (but this may be because I'm still adjusting to red wines)!
